Developed primarily by dedicated community modders, the Xtreme series was conceived to bridge the gap between traditional tactical shooter mechanics and the over-the-top, fast-paced elements found in Asian online shooters like Counter-Strike Online (CSO) and CrossFire .

Unlike the vanilla CS 1.6 , which focuses purely on competitive 5v5 bomb defusal or hostage rescue, CSX V9 throws realism and balance out the window in favor of arcade-style fun.
