Perhaps the most surprising counter-trend is the rise of Sefakai —a portmanteau of Sendiri (alone) and Fakai (from "Fuck it," or rather, "I don't care").
It is a psychological rebellion. After two decades of being told to be "agreeable" and "family-oriented," Indonesian youth are claiming . They are co-opting the Japanese concept of hikikomori but in a social way—via "Do Not Disturb" modes on WhatsApp (which is viewed as an intrusion, not a connection).
The dream is not to work for a Perusahaan (company) until retirement. The dream is "FIRE" (Financial Independence, Retire Early) or simply "Kerja remote sambil keliling Indonesia" (Work remotely while traveling Indonesia).
