The story centers on one of two high school students, the male protagonist Takuto or the female heroine Shiki. Once passionate Digimon players in their youth, they are suddenly transported to the Digital World after a strange incident involving their old Digivice toys. There, they are discovered by the elder Jijimon in the ruined town of Floatia, now in a state of chaos due to the rampaging evil . Players are joined on their quest by fellow Tamers Kouta Hirose and Himari Oofuchi, each partnered with their own unique Digimon. Digimon World Next Order

The characters in Digimon World: Next Order are well-developed and relatable, with distinct personalities and motivations.
