Years before the main story begins, Mo's attempt to read the magical book Inkheart to his wife Resa (Sienna Guillory) goes horribly wrong. He unleashes two villains, the power-hungry Capricorn (Andy Serkis) and his henchman Basta (Jamie Foreman), while his wife is pulled into the book's world. The plot then follows Mo and his now 12-year-old daughter Meggie (Eliza Bennett) on a dangerous quest to find the original author of Inkheart (Jim Broadbent) and reverse the spell.
