"Khatrimaza" is a well-known piracy website that illegally distributes copyrighted movies, including films like the "Bahubali" (Baahubali) series.
The scheme was meticulous. The main accused, a former software engineer named Ankit Kumar, used his knowledge of satellite broadcasting. He obtained a decrypting key that allowed him to intercept the film's transmission and directly copy it to a computer, bypassing the need to project it on a theatre screen. This HD print was then used to extort ₹15 lakh from the producers, Arka Media Works, in exchange for not releasing the copy online. The police arrested six individuals, including a movie hall owner from Bihar and his assistant.
Piracy is illegal under Indian law, and downloading pirated content can lead to legal action.
