Originating in Japan during the mid-1980s, the bukkake genre emerged partly as a creative response to strict censorship laws. Japanese pornography had to obscure images of genitalia, forcing studios to find new ways to create visually impactful and boundary-pushing content without violating legal parameters. The genre quickly found its formula: a central performer (male or female) would be ejaculated on by multiple males, often in a sequential or simultaneous manner.
