In the years following the first film, there have been various attempts to develop a sequel. In 2013, it was announced that a script for "Constantine 2" was in the works, with writer Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Prometheus) on board. However, the project stalled, and it wasn't until 2020 that Reeves confirmed that a sequel was indeed in development. The actor expressed his enthusiasm for revisiting the character and exploring the darker corners of the DC Universe.
