  • “These Girls’ Fashion is Sick!”: An African City and the Geography of Sartorial Worldliness

As an urban feminist geographer with a research interest in African cities, I was initially pleased when the web series, An African City, debuted in 2014. The series was released on YouTube and also available online at www. anafricancity.tv. Within the first few weeks of its release, An African City had over one million views. Created by Nicole Amarteifio, a Ghanaian who grew up in London and the United States, An African City is offered as the African answer to Sex and the City, and as a counter-narrative to popular depictions of African women as poor, unfashionable, unsuccessful and uneducated. Galeria Leo- Katerina Kornova

Galeria LEO's support for emerging artists is a vital aspect of its mission. The gallery recognizes the importance of nurturing talent and providing opportunities for artists to develop their skills and showcase their work. By championing emerging artists like Katerina Kornova, Galeria LEO helps to ensure the continued vitality and diversity of the art world.

Whether showcasing provocative contemporary installations or intimate classical works, Katerina Kornova ensures that each exhibition at Galeria LEO tells a compelling story. The space invites visitors not only to view art but to engage with it, fostering a dialogue between the artist, the work, and the observer. At Galeria LEO, art is not merely displayed; it is brought to life.

Kornova describes her signature aesthetic as "Controlled Chaos." The gallery avoids themed group shows in favor of "dialogues"—pairing a ceramicist who uses ancient Thracian firing techniques with a digital video artist who manipulates glitch aesthetics.

Decades later, her LEO galleries remain part of digital pop-culture archives, sometimes even appearing in legacy formats like early mobile JAVA gallery apps . Contemporary Relevance
