The national film industry is currently experiencing a golden age, with growth consistently outpacing global averages. While the global market grew slowly at around 2%, Indonesia's film sector expanded by a robust 5-6%. This is a compelling sign for investors and a victory for local storytelling. The Indonesian online video market was valued at approximately US$1.5 billion in 2025, with projections for continued strong growth.
The Indonesian entertainment landscape has witnessed a massive migration of talent and audience from national television (Sinetron and variety shows) to independent digital networks.
This study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data analysis. We collected data on the most popular videos in Indonesia from YouTube, TikTok, and other social media platforms, using metrics such as views, likes, and comments. We also conducted in-depth interviews with Indonesian content creators, industry experts, and audiences to gain a deeper understanding of the context and significance of these trending videos.
