Luigi Oreste Anzaghi (1903–1963) was an Italian composer, teacher, and a true pioneer of the accordion as a serious concert instrument. He began his musical training as a violinist, then studied composition with Marco Enrico Bossi at the Milan Conservatory. But his passion for education led him to explore guitar, piano, clarinet, and later the accordion, which he mastered in a remarkably short time. He eventually became a composition professor at the Milan Conservatory, holding the chair of harmony until his death. His most famous concert piece is the "Variazioni da concerto sul brano 'Occhi neri'," a popular set of variations on the Russian folk song "Dark Eyes" that is still widely performed today. Anzaghi is also the author of a popular guitar method, still used by many modern players and teachers.
